Meet professional doulas in this hands-on session to explore the reality of being a doula plus steps you can take to making the career change. Get answers to some of the common beginning questions. We'll help you jump start your plans to becoming a doula.

This session includes counseling to identify your personal plan of action.

Course Description: Start your journey with the core basics of becoming a birth doula– a knowledgeable, experienced companion who is trained to provide emotional and physical support, encouragement and wisdom for pregnant women and their families. Throughout history, women have supported other women during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. Learn everything from emotional and physical comfort measures, partner support, how to support a woman through challenging birth experiences and so much more. This course is DONA International approved and qualifies as the first step towards doula certification.

For those who wish to move towards DONA certification, a one day Doula Childbirth Introduction class is offered in conjunction with this course that will meet the DONA requirement for Childbirth Education Step#4.

Course Description: It takes more than just knowledge to grow and succeed as a doula, it takes professionalism, a clear mission, deep commitment to self-care, strong communication and advocacy skills and a nourishing community of support. Join us for this one day event to hone your professional skills. Our six-month intensive internship will help you generate a vibrant, professional practice. More than just readying you for certification you will learn everything you need to be a leader in the birth community along with the practical skills of running your own business. Pairing you with a professional doula mentor you will have the opportunity to observe births, and lead births as a intern through our referral network. Learning circles twice a month prepare you for every aspect of running your own doula practice. Learning topics include (subject to change):

• Interview Success: building trust
• Communication boosters
• Avoiding Compassion burnout
• Professionalism in the birth room
• Self Care: body mechanics, massage and other tips to avoid burnout
