Physical Comfort Measures
A woman's environment, body, and mind all contribute
to her perception of pain and decisions about medication in childbirth.
The laboring woman’s physical sensations are the cues that signal
the progress of the labor, the needs of the baby and how best to support
the birthing pair’s journey. By tending to the woman’s physical
needs her perception of pain can be reduced, the quality of her journey
and her birth memory is enhanced and the postpartum bond increases.
Our doulas support the birth pair first by enhancing
the emotional support already available by spouse and family through labor
positioning, massage, hydrotherapy (water), hot and cold packs, breathing,
