Birth planning

Only you know the birth you want. Getting clear about your birth philosophy helps you and your support people be aware of your needs and preferences. Spend some time exploring your vision of birth; what is the birth environment you want to create? Who will attend your birth? What will help you feel safe and secure? How will you cope with pain? Write out your thoughts and feelings about the following topics. This will help you fully explore your philosophy of birth. Make your "Birth Plan" a communication tool for your birth team. To that end, make it one page.

Include:
  1. Any medical concerns regarding your health (allergies, conditions, etc.)
  2. Who is attending the birth
  3. What support means to you (I feel supported when...)
  4. What kind of communication supports you (informative vs. need-to-know)
  5. What is a supportive environment to you
  6. Newborn Care
  7. Emergency Plan
