Amanda Nichols
BCD (DONA), Mother Tree Doula

"My heart and soul is devoted to helping families and building community. I strongly believe it 'takes a village to raise a child' and I want my work as a Doula to rekindle the age old tradition of women-supporting-women and their families."

Amanda is a compassionate birth Doula as well as an energetic child caregiver and teacher. As a Doula, she strives to help women feel empowered and safe in their birth environment. She focuses on promoting self-care, self-esteem, and self-expression for families. Her pain-coping techniques include massage, positioning, imagery, and mindful presence through the birth process.

Amanda holds a bachelor's degree from an all-women's college (Mount Holyoke, Massachusetts). She has completed her DONA certification and has also completed a 6-month intensive Internship with MotherTree Birth Serives in 2009.

Outside of Doula work, she is helping her partner in a Tutoring business dedicated to underpriviledged students in Portland. She also works as a Sunday School teacher for children of various ages. Although her guilty indulgences are surfing the Internet, movies, and music--her biggest dream is to move out on the quiet countryside to raise a family off the grid.

"Amanda acted beyond what was expected and I believe that she went beyond what many people would have thought a doula could do. Also Amanda came out as a great friend and listener to my and my husband's personal needs during childbirth and during our appointments" -Jennipher, first time Mama
