Brooke Miller Jarvis
Doula

"Women's bodies are made for birthing babies, and unfortunately sometimes those around during labor and delivery do not allow the birthing mama to do what her body is telling her to do. I wish for every woman to have the birth experience that she most wants to have, and to feel unconditionally supported throughout the entire process, regardless of what she chooses to do, or the outcome. Additionally, I feel strongly that women bring a special and unique type of support to each other during labor, and doulas provide this type of support. Partners, and other members of a supportive birth team alike, also greatly benefit from the support of a doula in the birth room, as doulas encourage and promote additional birth team involvement. For these reasons and more, I feel that doula support is so vitally important."

Brooke serves primarily as a birth doula, providing unconditional support during pregnancy, labor, and delivery, but she also provides some postpartum support. She is greatly experienced in facilitating the use of natural pain coping techniques, and utilizing comfort massage during labor. Brooke greatly trusts the ability of each woman and her body to labor the ways necessary in order to bring her baby.

Brooke first served as a doula twelve years ago, at the birth of her sister, and has been passionate about birth ever since. She feels that birth is a life changing and beautiful experience, and that the birth room must feel safe, as there is a great deal of vulnerability involved.

Brooke and her husband, cat and dog relocated to Portland from Northern California during the commencement of summer 2008. Since the relocation, she has been working at a Naturopathic Clinic, and she is currently pursuing a Masters Degree program in Midwifery. Brooke has also completed the Mother Tree six month long intensive doula mentored internship, from which she feels she has gained her strong foundation of knowledge and experience in birth support.
