Christine D'Esposito
Birth and Postpartum Doula, Birthing From Within Mentor
I believe that women already have everything they need to know to give birth. As a childbirth mentor, my goal is to facilitate parents in their own self-discovery. As a doula, I aim to offer advocacy and support physically, emotionally and spiritually as parents journey through the labyrinth of labor, birth and postpartum.
Christine is a certified Birth and Postpartum Doula and Birthing From Within Mentor. She first became inspired to do birth work in 1998 after supporting a close friend through her pregnancy and helping her raise her daughter. It was then that she first experienced the beauty and awe of the motherbaby bond. She was amazed to witness the innate intelligence that mothers and babies share in their deep connection to each other. Christine continued working with families and children as a nanny for the next six years. It was here that she truly learned the value of outside support and a family that works together. In 2001 she began to answer the call within to work as a birth professional. She attended Birthwingway College of Midwifery in Portland, where she completed her birth doula certification and became certified as a postpartum doula in 2002 through DONA. After discovering the book "Birthing From Within", by Pam England, she began her path as a childbirth mentor. She studied with Pam England and is now certified through Birthing From Within and currently mentors classes in the Portland area.
Christine enjoys bringing an element of ceremony and celebration to birth. For many years, her personal interests have revolved around ritual and rites of passage cross culturally. She has studied and practiced with Native American teachers and healers since 1999 in California and Oregon. She has also received a certificate in herbal studies at the East West School of Herbal Medicine in Santa Cruz, Ca. and a certificate in hot stone application at Breitenbush hot springs in Oregon. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree at Portland State University in Communication Studies with an emphasis in Family Communication.
Christine offers a wide variety of services including hot rock application (at births, prenatal and postpartum), organizing and leading Blessingway ceremonies, belly casting, and Birth Story Workshops to help women and families move through difficult birth experiences.
Her interests include creating community through music and art, singing and drumming, gardening, spending time in nature, yoga, bike riding and event production.
"Christine is loving, attentive, prepared, and more than happy to go the extra mile or more for any family she births with.. Her serene presence and heart-felt endurance are exactly what was necessary during this time of great transition in my family." - Elisa Mattice
"Having Christine at our birth was very comforting. It was so nice to have someone there who was knowledgeable about comfort measures. She helped my husband to participate confidently and took over for him occasionally so he could have a break. She was another level of support that was greatly appreciated before, during and after the birth." - Mother of a two-month-old
