our doulas:
Liz Brodsky
CMT and Certified Doula (Labor doula)

"Liz believes the process of giving birth is sacred and powerful in its uniqueness to women. Because a woman’s body is built to birth and is as natural as life itself, this experience brings us closer to the earth, to our empowered selves, and prepares us to become the nurturer and protector of a brand new life."

Women already have the innate knowledge to give birth within themselves, to know what they need and how to move throughout labor. As a Doula, Liz believes it is her role to gently remind laboring women of the knowledge they already have, by supporting them to use their voice, release tension through the use of relaxation techniques, trust in the inherent wisdom of the mother’s body, and advocate for what they desire. With her continuous gentle presence throughout labor and delivery, she uses her knowledge and compassion to encourage a positive and peaceful birth experience.

Liz has always been interested in the healing arts, whether it be through, dance, counseling, visual arts, massage, or the capability of a woman’s body to experience the beauty of birth. Liz completed her Doula training from Natural Resources, in San Francisco, California, where she resided until the spring of 2010. She also has her BA from Evergreen State College, where she focused in Gender Studies and The Arts. She has worked extensively as a counselor for at-risk populations in sensitive situations, which has taught her to stay grounded and present during trying events.

Liz is also a certified massage therapist and enjoys integrating these tools for comfort measures throughout pregnancy and labor. With a background in counseling and massage, Liz has developed a presence that allows her clients to feel safe, supported, and empowered during this intimate experience. Liz’s background and education has attributed to a wealth of information to share with laboring moms and their support teams. She has experience with first time moms, VBACS, back labor and posterior births, hydrotherapy, acupressure, same-sex couples, non-traditional family arrangements and spiritual practices.

Liz practices many forms of movement and art as a way to connect herself to the world around her. Some of her favorite activities include listening to music, dancing, walking her beautiful white boxer and his tiny dog companion, as well as exploring her new city on her bicycle. Liz feels honored to be involved in the transformative experience of labor and birth and looks forward to offering support to laboring women and their family unit.

"It's hard to describe just how valuable it was to have Liz with us during the birth of our second baby. I can say for sure that I couldn't have done it without her help. During my 44 hour labor Liz was a calm and soothing presence while at the same time knowing exactly when to give me a solid boost in confidence or a timely labor update. She was my advocate and my gentle coach. Liz is also an LMT and the massage techniques she used really helped relax me and ease the labor pains. Liz is very intuitive and also knowledgable about comfort positions and labor methods (we used Hypnobabies) and is a great support person to have there during such an amazing occasion. She also brought me herbs and my favorite snacks after I got home from the hospital, which was so thoughtful and sweet. I highly recommend Liz as a doula. Thank you, Liz!!! " -Heather

"Our decision to have a doula at our birth was one of the best we could have made. Liz was attentive, respectful, and incredibly supportive in so many ways. She navigated me through unknown territory of having a natural birth with grace and humor. I felt like my oldest friend was there with me and we had practically just met. She made me feel at ease every step of the way. Her after care was sweet by nature, she brought me chocolate and homemade soup, and she genuinely cared about our experience. I absolutely hope to have her there for our next birth. And the next! " -Stephanie
